How To Pack Your Beauty Products For Your Next Vacation!

If you’re a beauty junkie like me you know all about that “second suitcase”! The one that is dedicated to carrying all your hair, makeup, and skincare products because if you try to fit them in with your clothes, shoes, purses, and hats… well, they just don’t all fit!

After getting charged an extra fee ($100) multiple times for my suitcase weighing “too much” I decided I needed to get smarter about the way I packed… but I didn’t want to have to leave anything behind!

Let’s face it, you shouldn’t have to leave parts of your makeup routine at home, especially on a vacation where you will be taking a lot of pictures and dressing cute!

So, after much trial and error I finally figured out the BEST packing system and I’m here to share all my secrets with you!

MY TOP 5 PACKING TIPS

#1 PROCESS OF ELIMINATION

Make a list of all the products you need to complete your favorite beauty looks. These products will be priority.

PRO TIPS:

  • Here is a little thing I do to help myself remember what I can’t be without. I physically lay out all of my beauty products in front of me in the order I like to use them from start to finish - actually SEEING my products prevents me from forgetting about any!

  • If you are really trying to pack the minimum choose the makeup items that enhance the features you love the most. For example I feel best when my brows, lashes, and lips are done, so I know those 3 items are a must for me!

#2 PURCHASE YOUR “MUST HAVES” TRAVEL SIZE | MINIS

HERE ARE SOME OF MY FAVORITE MINS!

I like to go on Sephora & ULTA’s website and type in the product name in the search bar, looking to see if they carry it in a mini / travel size. If they do, you can have it shipped directly to you or pay online and pick up the items in store.

PRO TIP: If you can’t find your exact product in a mini size and you are open to using a different on click on the “MINIS” tab to see an array of other mini size products you can choose from.

#3 CREATE YOUR OWN TRAVEL SIZE

If the product doesn’t come in a travel size and it’s a must have on your list…don’t worry, I got you covered!

YOU CAN TURN ANY PRODUCT INTO A TRAVEL SIZE IN 2 EASY STEPS

  1. For shampoo / conditioner / body wash / lotions / face wash / sprays I love using this Kitsch Ultimate Travel Set

  2. For skincare / creams / makeup products I love using these round tubes with a scooper - I know it may be easier to scoop your products out with your fingers, but doing so can contaminate the product with harmful bacteria. If you already have containers and just need scoopers I love these from Amazon!

#4 HAVE A DESIGNATED BEAUTY BAG FOR ALL THESE TRAVEL SIZE PRODUCTS

Okay now that you have a collection of all your travel mini’s invest in a makeup bag that fits ALL these products together. This bag is designated for your travel size products only - and should be stored in your bathroom - but here’s the catch, you are going to put the products in the bag and leave them in the. bag.

WHY THIS IS THE BEST IDEA EVER:

  1. One less thing you have to spend time “packing” and “unpacking” every time you travel.

  2. This bag will be filled with your must haves, ready to grab and go even for last minute trips!

  3. You’ll never have to worry about forgetting a beauty product again!

#5 CHECKING A BAG & BRINGING A CARRYING ON?…GREAT, I HAVE A SYSTEM FOR THAT TOO!

Okay, I have one last tip for you when it comes to packing and this one is a goodie! If I’m flying 99.9% of the time I check a bag AND bring a carry on… but there is specific system to the way I pack each bag.

CHECKED BAG - This is where you will pack your travel size products. Why? - Travel size products don’t weigh as much as your full size products. Remember the goal is to stay under the 50Ib regulated weight for checked bags.

CARRY ON - This is where you will pack your full sized beauty tools such as curling iron, straightener, Dyson airwrap, hair drier, etc. Why? These items weigh more than your travel minis and carry on bags are regulated by size - not weight.

PRO TIP: I highly recommend getting a carry on with wheels. Running through an airport hauling HEAVY bag on your shoulder is a disaster waiting to happen… trust me, I’ve been there!
