Shower Routine For Healthy Hair
Beautiful Healthy Hair Results From Good Habits
When I first moved to Florida from California my hair threw a fit. It looked dead, damaged, and dull - so I reached out to some of my girlfriends who are professional hair stylist for help!
They all shared so many amazing hair care habits I never knew I should be implementing!
In this post I’m sharing with you 5 tips they gave me (that really worked) for best in shower habits.
#1 SHAMPOO TWICE
The first shampoo will help to break up and remove dirt, product residue, and oils built up on your scalp
Now that you’ve rinsed away all that built up residue you want to shampoo a second time so your scalp and hair strands can soak up the nourishing properties your shampoo is formulated with.
#2 GIVE YOURSELF A SCALP MASSAGE
Massaging your scalp helps to enhance blood circulation and can even strengthen your follicles. I love doing this during my second shampoo - since my hair is more sudsy and lathered. Use your fingertips to gently massage in small circular motions. You want to avoid being too rough - and defiantly don’t “scrub” your scalp - this can cause hair breakage.
#3 LET YOUR CONDITIONER SIT
You want to give your conditioner time to sit on your hair strands - if you rinse it away immediately your hair most likely won’t reap all the benefits.
To know exactly how long to leave your conditioner on you can look at the directions on the bottle (it usually states anywhere from 2-3 mins) - the perfect amount of time for you to shave and exfoliate your body!
#4 USE WARM WATER (NOT HOT)
During your shampooing steps it’s best to use warm water (never hot!). This temperature activates the cleansers in your shampoo while protecting your scalp and hair strands from too much heat. The warm water also allows the cuticles of the hair and pores on the scalp to open up providing your shampoo the ability to achieve a deep cleanse.
#5 ALWAYS RINSE WITH COLD WATER
You may have noticed your hair dresser does a quick cold water rinse at the very end of your wash. It’s because the cold temperature of the water is what seals the hair cuticle back up and locks in the moisture from your conditioner — providing extra hydration and shine to your hair while preventing frizz. I knowww the idea of running cold water down your head may not sound very pleasant - but the benefits are worth it I promise.
